Sabah SMEs Accelerate Digital Adoption with CelcomDigi’s MY5G Programme

October 10, 2025

Combining digital workshops with Skuad 5G SME Edition on-ground engagements to unlock new digital growth opportunities for entrepreneurs

KOTA KINABALU, 10 October 2025 – CelcomDigi Berhad (“CelcomDigi”) continued its nationwide MY5G SME Digital Workshop in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, to equip small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with practical skills to digitalise their businesses quickly and effectively. Now in its third year, the 2025 edition combines hands-on workshops with on-ground engagements to create greater impact for participants.

With the theme “Scaling New Heights with Sabah SMEs,” The MY5G SME Digital Workshop in Sabah is supported by a network of strategic partners including Bank Simpanan Nasional, Funding Societies Malaysia, G & A Group, Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI), Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Money Match, Persatuan Usahawan Maju Malaysia (PUMM), SME Bank, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB), SME Corporation Malaysia, Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (TERAJU), Chunk & Dunk, Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ), Sabah Women Entrepreneur & Professionals Association (SWEPA), SME Association of Sabah, and Tik Tok Shop.

Building on these strong collaborations, this year’s digital workshops introduced three new experiences – Business Matching which allows entrepreneurs to network, exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations, Live Streaming by TikTok Shop, which offers hands-on guidance for SMEs to create and launch their first live content, and Arena Usahawan, a one-stop hub connecting entrepreneurs with funding, grants, and ecosystem support. Each experience was designed around the real needs of entrepreneurs, curated to help them respond effectively to opportunities and strengthen their business growth with confidence.

Championing Sabah’s Entrepreneurial Spirit

Complementing these new workshop experiences, CelcomDigi extended its impact to engage directly with Sabahan business owners through Skuad 5G SME Edition — pairing impact with insight through on-ground visits with SMEs at their places of business in Kota Kinabalu, including the Central Market in Sinsuran, Segama Commercial, Gaya Street and Segama Complex. These conversations and engagements provided the CelcomDigi team with a deeper understanding of local SME challenges and digitalisation opportunities, enabling more targeted recommendations on how each business owner can digitalise their operations effectively.

Building on these insights, our digital workshop featured homegrown Sabahan success story Adam Shamil — digital creator, Founder and CEO of Chunk & Dunk, and a personality with over 600,000 followers across social media — best known for his viral “Get It Right” series celebrating Sabahan culture. His journey proves how creativity and community spirit powered by digital tools can translate into real business success, making him a source of pride for Sabahans. With local SMEs, he underscored the importance of curating content that reflects each state’s unique identity, challenges, and opportunities, inspiring them to embrace digitalisation and drive growth.

Sharing his perspective on the power of digitalisation, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of CelcomDigi, Ts. Afizulazha Abdullah said, “Based on on-ground insights and direct engagement with the SMEs, we designed this programme to inspire them with real success stories, equip them with practical tools, and create opportunities to connect and collaborate. Digitalisation is no longer optional, it’s key to unlocking growth. SMEs must be visible and in demand online, and as their trusted digital partner, we’re helping them take meaningful steps toward long-term success.”

After Sabah, the MY5G SME Digital Workshop will make its final stop in Kuching, Sarawak.
